Religion and spirituality play a deeply significant and pervasive role in Indian culture and the daily lives of most Indians, particularly Hindus. A recent example of that has recently grabbed the audience’s attention, wherein an Indian man mistook the Italian luxury sports car manufacturer Maserati as a ‘Mahadev company car’. Yes! You read that right. The man confused the car’s Trident symbol for Lord Shiva’s Trishul. The clip sparked several memes and jokes, emphasising the cultural crossover between big businesses and regional beliefs. Maserati Or Mahadev Ki Car? In the clip, the man spots a blue Maserati amid huge traffic mounted on a car carrier and proudly declares it to be a ‘Mahadev company car,’ pointing at the car’s emblem. To him, the Trident clearly looked like Mahadev’s Trishul — a sacred symbol in Hindu culture. “Mahadev company ka ye gaadi hai (Mahadev company’s car),” the man said in the clip. Moving ahead, he was also heart talking to other onlookers and said, “Ye dekho, kaunse company ka hai ye gaadi pata nahi chal raha hai. Mahadev company ka Trishul laga hua hai (Look, it’s hard to tell which company this car belongs to. It’s got a Mahadev company trident on it.)” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Delima Updates (@delimaupdates) Internet In Splits The clip was quick to grab the attention, prompting several reactions. An Instagram user wrote, “Kahi Germany mein Swastik dekh k Hitler ko na poojne lag jaaye.” Another one commented, “BMW- Brahma Mahesh Wishnu.” One of them shared, “Lamborghini – Lambodar Ganesh.” “VW- VOLKSWAGEN – Vishnu Wahan,” a comment reads. One person commented, “Illiteracy at its peak.” A user wrote, “Is education Illegal in India?” Another comment reads, “People laughing here are educated about cars, good. The guy who is making the video might be a labourer who might not have seen this brand earlier. Shouldn’t laugh.” A user shared, “WhatsApp university se shayed.” “Har har Maserati,” wrote another. A person commented, “500 godpower.” What Does The Logo Actually Mean? The Maserati Trident does not have any religious significance. Instead, it represents Neptune, the Roman deity of the sea. The logo design was inspired by a statue of Neptune in Bologna, Italy, Maserati’s hometown. Nonetheless, it is easy to see where the misconception stemmed from. The Trident’s sharp points resemble a Trishul, and in India, this directly relates to Lord Shiva, also known as Mahadev.
