Man killed in South Anchorage shooting

Police said a man died in a shooting Saturday morning that appeared to occur outside a recreational facility in South Anchorage. Officers responded around 11:43 a.m. to a report of a shooting in the 11800 block of Brayton Drive, the Anchorage Police Department said in an online update. Upon arrival, they found a man “with trauma to the upper body,” and though police and medics administered life-saving measures, the man was declared dead at the scene, police said. The location of APD’s response is in the vicinity of the Fox Hollow Golf Course & Sports Dome, where police could be seen working outside Saturday and cordoning off part of a parking lot with a chaplain’s vehicle on site. Police said they’re “currently following up on leads and there is no suspect information to release at this time.” “The motive, and any relationship between the parties involved, is under investigation,“ the police department said in its update. The man who died will be identified once next-of-kin have been notified, according to the department. Police asked anyone with information about the incident, including surveillance footage from the area, to call dispatch at 311 (option 1) or 907-786-8900 (option 0).
