Man held for stealing handbag with gold jewellery from Malaysian national on Chennai Metro train

The Anna Salai police have arrested a 31-year-old man on charges of stealing from a passenger on a Chennai Metro train.
Police sources said a Malaysian citizen named Mohammed Iskandar Shah bin Abdullah alias Yugendron, 41, employed in a medical agency, had come to Chennai to visit his relatives. After arriving at the Chennai airport, he boarded a Metro train to travel to the LIC Metro station.
While on the train, his handbag containing eight sovereigns worth of gold bangles and important documents was stolen by an unknown person. On reaching the LIC Metro station, Yugendron lodged a complaint at the Anna Salai police station. Based on his complaint, the police registered a case and began an investigation.
The police examined CCTV footage and identified the suspect as Sunil Raj, 31, of Tiruvallur district. He was subsequently arrested. From his possession, the police recovered a handbag containing the stolen gold bangles (weighing 8 sovereigns) and Malaysian documents belonging to the complainant.
Investigations further revealed that the accused worked in the HR department of a private company in Chennai. After interrogation, the accused was produced before the court and was remanded in judicial custody.
