Man fatally stabbed in ‘retribution’ for e-scooter robbery, court told

A 27-year-old man was fatally stabbed with a large hunting knife in "retribution" for the robbery of an e-scooter, a court has heard. Sanchini Thompson was allegedly one of three men who also robbed Earl Junior Strachan, 33, of cash and other possession early on October 15. It is claimed Strachan armed himself a large hunting-style knife and stabbed Mr Thompson at around 3am. Police and paramedics were called to Rushey Green, Lewisham, south-east London, and Mr Thompson died later in hospital. Six days later, Strachan was arrested in Scotland as he allegedly waited to board a ferry to Belfast. He was charged with murder and possession of a knife on October 23. On Tuesday, Strachan appeared at the Old Bailey before Judge Sarah Whithouse KC. Outlining the allegation, she told the court: "The motivation for the offence was retribution for the robbery in which three other people were the assailants and only one was stabbed." The judge set a plea hearing on January 30 and a provisional two-week trial from January 29 2026. Strachan, of no fixed address, spoke only to confirm his identity during the hearing and was remanded into custody.
