A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car while crossing the Mancunian Way . Officers were called out to reports of a collision on the city centre motorway at around 12.50am this morning (October 31). Greater Manchester Police says the incident involved a Volkswagen Passat which was merging from the slip road onto Mancunian Way. The vehicle struck the pedestrian , a man in his 20s, who was believed to have been crossing the carriageway at the time. Police arrested the VW driver, a man in his 40s, on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. Mancunian Way remains closed in both directions this morning, with drivers being urged to find alternative routes. A blue forensic tent has been erected on the carriageway, while pavements close to the road have been taped off. An investigation is underway and witnesses are being urged to come forward. A GMP spokesperson added: "Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. "They are keen to speak to anyone who may have CCTV footage, dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the incident."
