Man carrying ₹80 lakh cash falls unconscious under Cantonment railway bridge

A 36-year-old employee of a steel distribution company allegedly lost ₹80 lakh in cash after he fell off his scooter and lost consciousness near the Cantonment railway bridge underpass on Saturday night. The police are investigating whether it was a case of robbery or theft, after the victim, identified as Waseem Akram, told investigators he felt like “someone pushed him from behind” before losing balance. The incident According to police, the incident occurred around 8:30 pm while Akram was riding through the underpass with a cash bag placed on the scooter’s footrest. The bag reportedly contained around 160 bundles of notes, totalling ₹80 lakh, collected from clients in Peenya Industrial Area and JC Nagar. An autorickshaw driver passing by spotted Akram lying unconscious on the roadside and rushed him to a hospital on Queens Road. Employer’s statement Akram’s employer, Haseen Begh, who runs a steel business with 15 employees in Azeez Sait Industrial Estate, Nayandahalli, said Akram had been assigned to collect payments from clients across the city. “When he didn’t return by 9 pm, I tried calling him. An auto driver answered and said Waseem had met with an accident and was admitted to hospital,” Begh told police. When Begh reached the hospital, Akram had regained consciousness. He recounted that while riding through the underpass, he suddenly felt a push or impact from behind, lost balance, and crashed into the wall, losing consciousness. Begh said Akram mentioned that his scooter and cash bag might still be at the spot. When Begh’s brother went to the underpass, he found the scooter, but the cash bag was missing. Police investigation A senior police officer said Akram’s recollection is unclear — he is unsure if someone deliberately pushed him or if a car hit his scooter. “There are no CCTV cameras at the spot, but we are analysing footage from surrounding areas to trace possible suspects,” the officer said. A case has been registered under Section 303 (theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the jurisdictional police station.
