One man has been left shocked by the true worth of a painting he picked up in a charity shop for less than £5, with him only later discovering he had unintentionally picked up the work of a collectible Spanish artist. Chris Hutton, from Wentworth, in South Yorkshire , had just opened up his first eBay business account for re-selling second-hand items when he stumbled across the painting being sold in a charity shop for just £4.50. "I'd visited a charity shop where I'd spotted this oil painting that was priced up at £4.50," Chris told NeedToKnow. "I posted all about it on my Instagram reselling page and I soon realised that I'd found a bit of a gem and that the artist's previous paintings were quite collectible." After taking a chance on the charity shop find, the 47-year-old later discovered the painting was by collectible Spanish artist Y. Deric. Chris was eventually able to sell on the painting on eBay for £299.99. After fees and postage were deducted this gave the bargain hunter an impressive £240 profit. Since the sale Chris has continued to scour charity shops for worthy finds and has been reselling for around five years. Reflecting on the sale of his £4.50 painting, Chris added: "It's the most profitable item that I have sold so far throughout my reselling journey."
