Man arrested over Uxbridge stabbing entered UK in lorry in 2020, officials say

A man has been killed and a 14-year-old boy injured in a “shocking and senseless” triple stabbing in west London. The emergency services rushed to Midhurst Gardens in Uxbridge at around 5pm on Monday following reports that three people had been attacked. A 22-year-old suspect, an Afghan national, was tasered and arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. The suspect came to the UK in a lorry in 2020, the Home Office has said. He was later granted asylum and leave to remain in 2022. Officials added that he was not staying in an asylum hotel or any other Home Office accommodation. A 49-year-old man, named locally as Wayne and reportedly walking his dog at the time of the incident, was treated by paramedics for stab wounds but died at the scene, the Metropolitan Police said. A 14-year-old boy was also taken to hospital with knife wounds while another man, aged 45, was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries. The suspect was taken to hospital as a precaution before being taken into police custody. Residents told how there was an “altercation” with “screams and shouting” and described “pools of blood” in the aftermath. Far-right activist Tommy Robinson shared footage online of the suspect being Tasered by police. The deceased man’ s next of kin have been told and are being supported by specially-trained officers. A neighbour in Uxbridge said the victim was a bin man and described him as “the last person on Earth that you would think somebody would go for”. She said she took some flowers and a box of shortbread over for his wife and added that on Monday he was “just doing the normal dog walk that he does every day”. She said: “I still can’t get over it. “If he was five or 10 minutes later taking the dog out would the same thing have happened?”. The Met Police said that an investigation has been launched and urgent enquiries are ongoing. Police also asked the public not to speculate about the circumstances of the stabbings or to post sensitive footage of the incident online. Hillingdon resident Ben James, 28, told the Standard: “I have got a family member who lives at the top of this road where the incident happened. “What she saw yesterday was a man come out of a hmo (house in multiple occupation) property.Screaming and shouting - that’s all she heard. “I came about an hour later. As I came here there were pools of blood. I saw two people on the floor and there was a tent up as well.“ “What I do believe is a man has come out and had an altercation with someone. “The guy he has had an altercation with has been stabbed and a dog walker has walked past with his dog - and he’s been stabbed 15 times I heard.” He added: “It’s a bit scary but it’s becoming the normal round here.” Another local told MailOnline: 'The dead man is very well known around here. He's a lovely guy, very gentle and peaceful. He was just trying to help and it's ended up costing him his life.' A mother-of-two who lives on Midhurst Gardens told the Standard she looked out of her window and saw the suspect being chased by police. Sinead Clarke, 36, said: “There was a man running away from the police. The police tasered him and arrested him. “I think there were four people chasing him. His t-shirt had been kind of ripped off. “I couldn’t see if he had a weapon but it seemed urgent that they got to him. The mother explained she had to turn the sound up on her television to distract her children, aged five and seven, from seeing what happened. “They are anxious about what’s going on and you have to think about what to tell them to not panic them too much,” she added. “It’s half term so we’ve made sure they are out all day today.” She continued: “There were some people being taken into an ambulance later. There were lots of people. The police got everybody into their houses quite quickly who wasn’t involved. “A lot of people had naturally come out to see what was happening. There was lots of police, lots of paramedics.” One local claimed the Afghan had been living as a lodger for the past six months in the 45-year-old man's house. A neighbour who was at home when the attack took place said he saw two young men run past his window shouting that someone had a knife. “He would have gone after anyone,” he claimed. “He chased an 18 or 19 year old into his house. And then he crossed the road to come towards me.” Footage showing the aftermath of the incident was shared online. A large cordon remained in place on Midhurst Gardens on Tuesday afternoon. Forensics officers could be seen working near a blue police tent in the middle of the street at the top of the road. Several bunches of flowers were laid at the scene by residents on Tuesday afternoon. One note left on a bunch of roses said “the community is devastated. Rest in peace #hillingdon says no” a second note said: “Sending my deepest sympathy. So sorry for your loss. Thinking of you and the community.” Chief Superintendent Jill Horsfall said: “This was a shocking and senseless act of violence that has left one man dead and two others injured. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time. “The incident will have understandably caused concern to the local community, I have deployed multiple officers to the local area, they will be here throughout the week to provide reassurance while detectives work intensely to piece together the circumstances. “I understand that there has been a lot of speculation online following on from this incident, we ask that you rely on us for information, and that you do not share sensitive footage. "If anyone saw, or has any information about the incident, then please come forward to police. We appreciate any information that you may have. "There will be a crime scene and a heavy police presence within the area over the next few days, I thank residents for their patience.” A Home Office spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those impacted by this horrific incident. “We are receiving regular updates from the Metropolitan Police. The priority must now be for the police to investigate so those responsible can be brought to justice.” A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 4.42pm on Monday 27 October to reports of a stabbing on Midhurst Gardens, Uxbridge. “We sent resources, including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and paramedics in fast response cars. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance, which consisted of a doctor and a paramedic in a car. “We treated three people at the scene in total. We took one patient to a major trauma centre but sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a patient was pronounced dead at the scene. “We assessed a third person before discharging them at the scene.”
