A man has appeared in court after he allegedly splashed red paint around the lobby of Central’s Cheung Kong Center, the headquarters of billionaire business magnate Li Ka-shing. Chen Chao-nan, 49, also stands accused of assaulting a security guard. Chen, a two-way permit holder, told a court on Wednesday that he was unemployed. He was arrested after the incident on Tuesday. The 57-year-old security guard, surnamed Law, tried to intervene resulting in apparent neck injuries. He was sent in a conscious state to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment, police told HKFP on Thursday. The case was mentioned at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday. Chen was charged with one count of criminal damage and one count of common assault. He was assisted by a Mandarin interpreter in court, and was not required to lodge a plea. The prosecution said that it would take time to obtain the victim’s medical report to clarify the charges. Chen did not apply for bail and was remained in custody until next Monday for the next hearing, according to a report by The Witness. HKFP has contacted CK Asset Holdings Limited, which owns the Cheung Kong Center.
