Man Answers Door for Package, Can’t Believe What Delivery Driver Calls Him

A delivery driver has sparked joy after he left a customer grinning from ear to ear with a cheeky compliment while on his rounds.

Leanne, 32, from Caerphilly, Wales, shared the hilarious encounter involving her husband Mathew, who was trying on his tuxedo ahead of a work party.

Mathew answered the door to receive a delivery, still dressed in his tux, when the DPD driver handed him the parcel and told him he looked “sexy.”

“He initially said thank you very much, took the parcel in, and then he came in he said, ‘the DPD man told me I look sexy’ with a big smile on his face,” Leanne, who didn’t give a surname, told Newsweek. “We thought it was hilarious, we looked back on the camera to see if the doorbell caught it, and [we were] so glad it did. It makes us smile to this day, what a guy.”

The couple decided to share the moment online last week after the hilarious encounter was captured on December 3 last year, ahead of the work Christmas party. The video quickly went viral, racking up 270,000 views in just a few days.

“I shared it on social media because it makes us smile and it’s a nice feel-good video that I thought others could enjoy as well. So many of the comments said his name is Lee from DPD and have said that he’s a lovely man, which you can clearly tell, he is,” she said.

Newsweek reached out to DPD for comment via email.

Leanne was particularly amazed at the driver’s positivity at a busy time of year. “It must have been a really busy time of year for delivery drivers, just before Christmas, and he was still doing his job with a smile on his face,” she said.

In the U.S. during the holiday period, typically from Thanksgiving through to New Year’s, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) alone reported processing 13.2 billion pieces of mail in 2021.

While a recent forecast by logistics technology provider ShipMatrix predicts a 5 percent rise in deliveries from 2024 for the upcoming holiday period, predicting that U.S. delivery companies are on track to handle 2.3 billion packages.

Social Media Reacts

As the video gained more attention on TikTok, people shared their reactions to the kind compliment.

“Haha that’s amazing! I love a driver with some personality,” said viewer iCandyUK.

While straykat107 wrote: “Well he’s adorable,” and viewer vickie agreed: “How cute is this.”

“Delivery parcels and confidence! What a man,” said TikToker Danielle.

This isn’t the first time a delivery driver has gained viral attention. In 2022 one driver tried out a theory—calling customers without even saying real words to see if people even listened to what he said. The results were shocking as he declared “I don’t need to say words at my delivery job.”

While earlier this year a delivery driver left a parcel underneath a doormat, but here was one problem—the package was bigger than the door.
