Man accused of using stolen credit card to buy $4K worth of jewelry, other items

A 30-year-old man is accused of using a stolen credit card to buy $4,000 worth of items, according to a magistrate’s complaint filed in Superior Court. Jude Donovan Santos was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card as a third-degree felony and theft of property as a misdemeanor. Officers at around 8:10 p.m. on Oct. 25 responded to a Tumon restaurant for a call regarding a stolen credit card. Police met with a man who said he lost his credit card on Oct. 13 somewhere in Tumon and identified a man at the bar who he said stole it. The man was Santos. The man told police he didn’t notice his card was missing until he looked for it on Oct. 20 and then went on his account online and saw the card was used at several locations, totaling $4,000 in charges. He then disabled his card. At around 8 p.m. on Oct. 25, the man went to a jewelry shop in Tumon as he saw several purchases were made there with his credit card. While he was there, Santos entered the store and the clerk identified him as the one who had been using the credit card. The man then followed Santos to a restaurant where he contacted police. Police asked Santos to go to the Tumon precinct for questioning but he told police he didn’t have a car so he asked to be transported there. Police interviewed Santos and asked if he had been using a credit card that didn’t belong to him and he said he found a card on the ground in Tumon, the complaint stated. Santos admitted to making a number of purchases which matched the man’s bank statements, documents stated. Officers asked Santos to remove everything he was wearing that was purchased using the credit card and they took the jewelry back to the store. The clerk identified that they were purchased by Santos using the credit card, documents stated. Santos was committed on $1,500 cash bail, according to documents from the Office of the Attorney General. According to documents, he has five prior convictions, including electronic enticement of a child, harassment, theft, criminal trespass and assault. He faces up to six years in prison if found guilty of the crimes.
