A 37-year-old man said he was high on methamphetamine when he allegedly stole several motor vehicles over a period of several weeks, a magistrate's complaint filed in Superior Court states. Fermin Vincent Reyes Mendiola was charged with two counts of burglary to a motor vehicle and six counts of theft of a motor vehicle as second-degree felonies, third degree robbery as a third-degree felony and theft of property as a misdemeanor. On Sept. 13, police responded to San Vitores Garden Condominiums in Tumon for a reported stolen motorcycle. Mendiola told police he saw the motorcycle while he was high on methamphetamine and found the bike lock key within the motorcycle compartment and took it, the complaint stated. Mendiola said he used it for some time before someone asked to ride it and he didn't see it again. On Sept. 21, police responded to Mendioka Tanota Gardens for a stolen vehicle complaint. A 2022 Kia Sedona was stolen from the parking lot and was later found abandoned on Route 15. Mendiola was asked about the vehicle and laughed and said he stole it from an apartment next to Saint John's School, the complaint stated. He drove to Fausto Pangelinan Street to "hide the car" behind the substation so he could use it later, but it got stuck on a rock and he tried to free the vehicle was unable so he left the area, documents state. On Sept. 26, police responded to a reported theft of a motor vehicle at a construction site in Yigo. The vehicle as a black Toyota Tacoma and the owner said he was working and then saw it was missing. Mendiola said he saw the vehicle was unlocked and the key was inside, so he drove off with it and parked it in an open field in the Mataguac area, the complaint stated. On Oct. 4, police responded to a theft of a motor vehicle complaint at Villentory Apartments in Dededo. The vehicle was a 2025 silver Toyota Sienna and Mendiola told police he was high when he stole the vehicle, documents state. He said he was going around an apartment in Dededo to see which car was unlocked and the van door opened and he pressed the start button and was surprised it turned on, the complaint stated. He said he drove the van away and tried to reverse park into an unknown property but punctured a tire doing so. He got help to replace the damage tire and was inspecting the inside of the vehicle when police arrived. On Oct. 4, another resident of Villentory Apartments said her car was broken into. Nothing was stolen, but the car was in disarray. Mendiola told police he gets high on methamphetamine and goes around looking for unlocked cars and tries to steal them, the complaint stated. On Oct. 12, police responded to a theft of motor vehicle complaint at Summertown Estates. A resident said his Tacoma was stolen and his other vehicle was burglarized. Mendiola said the door of the truck was unlocked and he was able to find the key and started it and left, the complaint stated. He took the car to Mataguac and left it there. On Oct. 16, police responded to a house in Dededo for an assault complaint. A man told police Mendiola tried to borrow a battery for a motorcycle, but the man told him no, but Mendiola pushed the man to the ground, punched his face and took the battery and fled, documents state. Mendiola denied the assault allegation and said he took the battery and left. He admitted to stealing the motorcycle, documents state. On Oct. 20, police went to Perez Acres and spoke to a woman who said her car was burglarized. Mendiola admitted he stole a Toyota Highlander after jumping the fence at Perez Acres and walked around checking what vehicles were unlocked, the complaint stated. He took items from vehicles that were opened but wouldn't start and came across the Highlander with the key inside and took the car to the Mataguac dump site, documents state.
