Man, wanted on warrant, seen running on street on Halloween night by off-duty officer is found hiding in garage: Solon police blotter

SOLON, Ohio -- Suspicious person: Charmwood Oval At 6:30 p.m. Oct. 31, an officer was patrolling Charmwood Oval during Solon’s Halloween trick-or-treat hours. Meanwhile, at the same time, a second officer, who was off-duty, was also on the street and noticed a man walking on Charmwood. After the officer in the car rode by, the man began to run towards a wooded area. The off-duty officer called to report the suspicious action to police. The patrolman then saw the man running towards a Charmwood Oval home. Officers reported to that home, located in the 3200 block of Charmwood, and found the man hiding in the garage. The suspect, a Cleveland man, 26, was found to be wanted on a Solon police warrant for failure to appear in court for a traffic offense. He was arrested without further incident and taken to Solon jail. Police did not additionally charge him. The suspect does not live in the home, but does know people who do. Burglary: Brainard Road At 2:15 p.m. Oct. 27, a Solon woman, 54, reported the theft of lawn care equipment from her garage. The garage’s man entry door was found broken. She suspected that the suspect was someone she knows. A lawn tractor, self-propelled mower, and power washer were among the stolen property, valued at a total of $8,000. Detectives are investigating. Breaking and entering: Aurora Road At 12:30 p.m. Oct. 28, the manager of Move 4 Less, 32300 Aurora Road, No. 5, reported a theft. He told officers that between the afternoon of Oct. 27 and the following morning someone had taken a safe from the business’s office. The small safe contained cash and a company credit card. There was no sign of forced entry, but a door to the building was found to be propped open. Detectives are investigating. OVI: Brainard Road At 11:50 p.m. Oct. 29, an officer followed a Tesla Model S northbound on Brainard Road, from Louise Drive. The car was operating at only 10-15 miles per hour, well under the 35-MPH limit, and was observed traveling outside its marked lane of travel. The officer stopped the car after it crossed Miles Road. The driver had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about him. He admitted to drinking, “Maybe one drink.” The man, 47, of Solon, had slurred speech and failed field sobriety testing. He could not complete a breath test. Police arrested the man for OVI and a marked lane violation, and suspended his license. Drug possession: Solon Road At 4:25 p.m. Oct. 29, an officer stopped a black Range Rover for its obstructed license plate. The officer then learned that the owner/driver was wanted on a warrant issued by Michigan State Police for cocaine possession. The officer detained the man, 65, of Cleveland, and learned that a passenger in the car, a 70-year-old Cleveland man, was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant issued by Chagrin Falls police. A police K-9 alerted officers to the presence of contraband drugs in the car. The driver admitted that there was a “crack rock” in the car. Police seized the cocaine. The driver was arrested for drug possession, a fifth-degree felony, and held on the Michigan warrant. The passenger was turned over, at the scene, to Chagrin Falls officers. The vehicle was released to the remaining passenger, a 74-year-old Cleveland man, who was not charged. OVI: US 422 At 1 a.m. Nov. 2, an officer saw a black Ford pickup truck traveling east on US 422, near SOM Center Road. The truck was traveling between 76-79 miles per hour in the 60-MPH zone. The officer got behind the truck and noticed that it was following too closely another vehicle, and that it was driven outside the marked lanes of travel. A traffic stop was conducted during which the officer found that the driver, a Niles man, 31, had slurred speech and bloodhsot eyes. The man failed to complete sobriety testing and was arrested for OVI. At the Solon jail, the suspect refused to complete a breath test. As a result, his license was suspended. Police additionally charged him with speeding, a marked lanes violation, and following too closely. Police had the vehicle towed. A passenger in the truck, the suspect’s brother, a 23-year-old Tampa, Fla. man, also appeared intoxicated and was argumentative with officers. The brother was given a ride to the police station to arrange for a ride home, but he continued to be argumentative with an officer at the police station and was arrested for disorderly conduct. OVI: Auroa Road At 3:10 a.m. Nov. 2, an officer on patrol saw a Mercedes SUV stopped at a green traffic signal on Aurora Road, east of Solon Road. The officer stopped behind the car, got out, and noticed a woman sleeping at the steering wheel. The car’s gear shifter was in the “drive” position, and the woman’s foot on the brake. The officer woke the woman, who appeared confused. She smelled of an alcoholic beverage and admitted to drinking “not that much.” Her speech was slurred. Police arrested the woman after she performed poorly on field sobriety tests. She was taken to Solon jail, where she refused a breath test. Her license was then placed under suspension. Police charged the 38-year-old Solon woman with OVI and driving under suspension. Warrant arrest: Aurora Road At 7:50 p.m. Nov. 2, an officer on patrol ran a registration check on a gray Ford truck that was stopped in the parking lot of Cicrle K, 29605 Aurora Road. The registered owner was shown to have a felony warrant with the Medina County Sheriff’s Office for burglary. Officers spoke to the two men who were with the parked car. The driver, 57, of Cleveland, was the wanted person. He was arrested and transported to Richfield, where he was turned over to MCSO deputies. He was also cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after a Solon officer found in the suspect’s coat pocket a suspected crack pipe. The other man in the car, 36 of Cleveland, was not chaged.
