By Nicholas Osei-Wusu The Mampong Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has approved a plan to stimulate and accelerate socio-economic development in the municipality next year, as outlined in the Municipal Chief Executive’s (MCE) report at its first Ordinary Meeting in Mampong. The plan prioritizes access to affordable and quality formal education, especially at the pre-tertiary level, as well as investments in agricultural production, sanitation, infrastructure, and roads. These will be facilitated through improved revenue generation and a motivated workforce. Also approved is the Assembly’s proposal to build a model market in line with the government’s ‘24-Hour Economy’ initiative. The designs have already been submitted to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council for approval. The Municipal Assembly is also taking stock of all abandoned projects initiated by previous governments, with some already under construction. These stalled projects are mainly in the health, education, and sanitation sectors. In his maiden sessional address, the MCE, Yakubu Issifu, disclosed that as of the end of September, the Assembly had mobilized about GHC 1.4 million, representing 66% of its revenue target for the year, a development he described as concerning. Touching on agricultural production, Mr Issifu announced that the Agriculture Department has enrolled 230 farmer-based organizations under the government’s ‘Feed Ghana Project’. He also revealed that the ‘Nkokɔ Nketenkete’ poultry initiative will be launched later this month to boost local poultry production. “This enrolment process is ongoing,” he said. “I urge all honourable members to inform farmer groups or cooperative societies in your electoral areas that are yet to be captured to reach out to our agricultural field officers to ensure they are included in this vital initiative.” Speaking to Radio Ghana about plans to improve access to quality education, Mr Issifu disclosed that he had secured GETFund support for several projects, including the reconstruction of residential accommodation for the headmaster of St. Joseph’s Senior High Seminary in Mampong, which was destroyed by fire last year. On infrastructure, he said procurement processes had begun for a number of projects, and advertisements had already been placed in the national dailies. These include: Construction of a two-unit kindergarten block with ancillary facilities at Sataso. Construction of a Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Ninting/Hwidiem. Drilling of seven mechanized and four hand-pump boreholes in communities such as Adidwan Konkonba and Dadease Gyidi. Assembly members commended the MCE for his dedication and commitment to the progress of the Mampong Municipality within his three months in office. They praised his unifying leadership and pledged their support to ensure the successful implementation of the approved projects and programmes, particularly in the area of revenue mobilization. Meanwhile, the meeting commended Amaniampong Senior High School for advancing to the semi-final stage of this year’s National Science and Maths Quiz, the first time in the school’s history. The MCE pledged the Assembly’s support to encourage the team to continue excelling. Source link
