The owner of a nutrition club moving to a new location in the Haymarket hopes her shop develops a safe space, coffee shop vibe.
Talisha Hagerman, owner of Mama Bear Nutrition, is moving her store from a location near the intersection of 13th and O streets to its new spot at 105 N. Eighth St., near where O Street becomes the Harris Overpass. Hagerman hopes to open the store by November.
“My vision really is to be a safe place for a lot of these kids that come from out of state, leaving home, big things,” Talisha Hagerman said. “So just truly creating a safe environment for them and that’s really kind of what I’ve done.”
The store sells energy drinks and products from Herbalife, a multi-level marketing corporation that develops dietary supplements. Its offerings include protein shakes, caffeine-free drinks and teas with zero sugar that replace other energy drinks like Red Bull.
Mama Bear Nutrition made its first Haymarket appearance when it hosted a tailgate before last Saturday’s Husker football game, according to the store’s Facebook page.
Hagerman said she considers herself to be a mama bear, which inspired the store’s name.
“I’m a mom of three boys and just always want to make sure that my kids are protected in the world, but go live a life as well,” she said.
She said the new space in the Haymarket will be a protected safe space.
Mama Bear has some company. Talisha’s husband, Curt Hagerman, also sells Herbalife products. He opened a store called Vitality Lab Nutrition at 8600 S. 30th St. on Aug. 30.
Curt Hagerman said his wife identifies as a mama bear, but his experience is in coaching. He said his father’s death last year at the age of 75 also inspired his desire to open a store focused on helping people live long and healthy lives.
Both stores support healthy and active lifestyles with the products they sell.
“We have low calorie teas, low calorie shakes, low calorie coffees, that helps with maintaining and losing weight as a calorie deficit,” Curt Hagerman said. “And so our products help provide a lower calorie option to help with maintaining or losing weight.”
