Malta High Commissioner delivers lecture on ties with India

Reuben Gauci, High Commissioner of Malta to India, delivered a special lecture on ‘Sixty years of Malta-India diplomatic relations: Reflections and prospects’ on the Karyavattom campus of Kerala University on Thursday.

In his address, the diplomat traced the history of the bilateral ties from the pre-Independence period. He observed how the foundations of friendship predated formal diplomatic ties, and went on to explain the steady evolution of relations over the past six decades.

Mr. Gauci also emphasised the scope for expanding cooperation in education, culture and trade, while also situating Malta’s strategic role in the Mediterranean within the framework of India’s growing global engagements. Drawing from his diplomatic experience in Palestine, Turkey, Portugal and India, he offered valuable insights into the future prospects of the partnership.

The programme was jointly organised by Kerala University and Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC). University Vice-Chancellor in-charge Mohanan Kunnummal presided. KSHEC vice-chairperson Rajan Gurukkal, Head of the Department of Political Science Josukutty C.A., and Centre for Global Academics Director Sabu Joseph spoke on the occasion.
