Mallorca goes crazy for the viral Japanese breakfast everyone’s talking about

Japanese pancakes are on everyone’s lips — quite literally — after Fluffy, a breakfast and brunch spot, opened in the Santa Catalina neighbourhood last May. In fact, numerous videos of Fluffy reviews — or foodie critiques — have been circulating on Instagram and TikTok. “I thought it was all just for show, but I couldn’t have been more wrong,” admits Mallorcan TravelwithGus, who also highlights the softness and texture of the dish in his latest post.

Matcha tea is another hallmark of this brunch. The secret to the success of this Japanese breakfast dish lies in its fluffy batter and the more than six syrup flavours available to go with it: Oreo and pistachio are the crowd favourites. “Most customers usually pair it with a matcha,” says the owner.

Polish-born Rafa Pozovski, who moved to Mallorca with his parents at the age of 14, runs this breakfast spot single-handedly. Together with his wife, he has travelled extensively around Asia: “We’ve lived in Japan, Thailand, Bali and also the US.” Both are passionate about Asian culture: “The flavours of its cuisine, the fruit and also the free and laid-back lifestyle are some of the things we miss the most.”

With this project, Pozovski aims to fuse Asian culture with local island produce such as seasonal fruit. The menu changes every month and, soon, “Vietnamese coffee and some Korean creations will be added.” However, the iconic fluffy pancakes will remain on the brunch menu as the star dish. As for drinks, Pozovski is determined to establish the place as an alcohol-free venue: “We want to be a breakfast-only bar.”

Saturday and Sunday mornings are their busiest times. “We recommend booking at weekends,” admits Pozovski. Amongst his clientele are plenty of Asian tourists, most arriving from cruise ships, as well as locals from across Mallorca.
