Mallikarjun Kharge to resume work after pacemaker surgery

Bengaluru: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge is set to return to his regular political schedule on Friday, a day after being discharged from M S Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru, where he underwent pacemaker implantation earlier this week.

Kharge stable after minor procedure

The 83-year-old leader had been admitted following complaints of prolonged breathlessness. Doctors confirmed that the pacemaker implantation was a “short and minor procedure” and that Kharge’s condition has been stable since. His son, Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge, shared an update on social media, saying the Congress veteran will resume work from October 3 and attend all scheduled engagements. He also expressed gratitude to supporters and colleagues for their concern.

Leaders extend wishes

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited Kharge in hospital and later confirmed that his health had improved considerably. “His condition is now good,” the CM told reporters, reassuring Congress cadres about the veteran’s recovery.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to Kharge after his hospitalisation. In a post on social media, the PM said: “Spoke to Kharge Ji. Enquired about his health and wished him a speedy recovery. Praying for his continued well-being and long life.”

Karnataka Congress president D K Shivakumar extended his wishes, stating: “May he regain full health soon and continue guiding the Congress Party with his wisdom.”

Political continuity

As AICC president, Kharge plays a central role in Congress’s national strategy and functioning. His return to active duty is expected to bring relief to party leaders ahead of the upcoming political season, where crucial electoral and organisational decisions are likely.

With leaders across the political spectrum extending wishes, Kharge’s return marks a reassuring development for Congress at a critical juncture. His recovery ensures continued leadership at the top as the party prepares for a series of political challenges in the months ahead.
