If you’ve been keeping a close eye on supermarket meal deals, you’ll know the prices have gotten a tad out of hand in recent months.
Back in 2022 a sandwich, packet of crisps and bottle of drink was just £3 at Tesco, but the same items will now cost you £3.85 with a Clubcard and £4.25 without one.
At Sainsbury’s it’s a similar story, costing £3.95 and Morrisons is £3.60 with a More Card and £4 otherwise.
But Asda’s about to take the race by storm, as the retailer is launching a new £3.74 fixed price meal deal that’s going to be the cheapest one available in supermarkets without requiring a loyalty card.

Like other meal deals, for your money you’ll get a main, snack and a drink and this can be selected from the ‘to go’ range.
This includes popular products like an Asda Chicken and Bacon Sandwich, Asda Cheese and Onion Sandwich, Apple Slices with a Toffee Dip, Doritos Tangy Cheese Tortilla Crisps and Coca-Cola Zero.
In total there will be 132 different mains to choose from, 336 snacks and 222 drinks, so the possibilities for combinations are practically endless.
Asda claims that taking advantage of the deal will allow shoppers to save up to 50% compared to buying the same items individually outside of the deal.

The new meal deal is replacing the current 3 for 2 offer on Asda’s Food to Go counters and it will be available in all supermarkets as well as all 478 Asda Express stores from September 17.
The retailer has also confirmed that all of the meal deals will be fully HFSS compliant, ahead of new legislation that affects multi-buy promotions.
Amy Wotherspoon, the buyer of Food to Go at Asda said: ‘At Asda, we believe great value should be available to everyone. That’s why we’re launching the new £3.74 Meal Deal that is completely open to all customers – with no app or membership required, and a big range of products to choose from so there’s something for everyone.’

This comes after a Metro reporter recently attempted to ‘beat’ the Tesco meal deal, to see if he could find a combination of items cheaper than the ones available in the offer.
At the time of writing, the meal deal cost £3.60 with a Clubcard, but this price has since gone up.
Jon ended up smashing the task, purchasing a Ginsters Chicken & Bacon Pasty, a Caramelised Onion Scotch Egg, a bottle of Peach and Passionfruit Sparkling Water and a bonus Apple and Grape Snack Pack all for £3.55.
Not only did he beat the deal, he also had change to spare, proving that while offers are all well and good, sometimes it’s worth shopping around to get more bang for your buck.
How does the price compare to other supermarket meal deals cost?
Co-op: £3.50 with a membership, £4 without
Morrisons: £3.60 with a More card, £4 without
Asda: £3.74
Tesco: £3.85 with a Clubcard, £4.25 without
Sainsbury’s: £3.95
Waitrose: £5
