Major supermarket announces it is hiring nearly 30,000 people in run up to Christmas

The UK's largest supermarket Tesco has announced it will be launching a major recruitment drive this winter. The store revealed it will be looking for almost 30,000 new colleagues to help over the busy Christmas period. The supermarket says it plans to hire for more than 28,500 temporary positions over the festive period, with a range of different roles and shift patterns on offer for new colleagues. It said available roles will include serving customers, stocking shelves and picking orders for home delivery, adding that no experience is necessary to apply for these positions. The supermarkets added new roles will mainly involve working in Tesco’s Superstores and Extra stores, with early morning, day and evening shifts available. Join our Christmas in Manchester WhatsApp group HERE Ela Golab, Tesco Group People Services Director said: "We’re excited to be recruiting festive colleagues to help make it a season to remember for our customers. "With the busy Christmas period ahead, we are looking for people who can bring warmth, enthusiasm and a helpful service to every shopping trip. The jobs will range from serving customers and stocking shelves, to picking orders for home delivery. "No day is ever the same, and festive colleagues will be able to feel the impact they make on every shift, as they send customers home with a smile. What's more, no experience is necessary - just the right attitude." Fresh Food Team Manager Emma Richardson Brown, who works at Tesco’s Gainsborough store in Lincolnshire, is one person who previously applied for a festive colleague role at the supermarket, before later moving onto team manager placement with Tesco. She said: "I love working for Tesco, as every day is different with a new set of challenges. It’s great to work as part of a fantastic team and there’s a culture, mainly driven by our store manager, Richard. You can be yourself and bring your own personality to work and have a bit of fun. "Throughout my journey I have had fantastic support from everybody in the store team and would recommend to anybody that wants to progress within Tesco to set your goals high and your hard work and dedication will be rewarded. Good luck to everybody applying." Anyone interested in applying for a festive job should apply at Tesco.com/careers/festive.
