Major European airport cancels ALL flights for one day as Manchester flights to be impacted

A major European airport has cancelled ALL flights for one day this month – with flights from Manchester directly affected. The Brussels Charleroi airport in Belgium has announced that it will not be operating on Tuesday, October 14 due to a national day of action that means staff will be striking. Ryanair flies directly to the Charleroi airport from Manchester – with three direct flights scheduled to and from the airport on October 14 – although all are still listed as ‘scheduled’ on Ryanair’s website. Brussels Charleroi said: “Due to the national day of action planned for Tuesday 14 October as a common trade union front and the lack of staff present to ensure operations in complete safety, Charleroi Airport will not be able to operate scheduled departures and arrivals. “Passengers affected scheduled to fly via Charleroi on 14 October will be contacted in the coming days by their airline for a rebooking or refund. “We regret the impact of this national strike on our passengers’ travel plans and apologise for any inconvenience caused.” Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE The strike is expected to affect airports, public transport, and some public services including schools. A demonstration is also planned for the centre of Brussels. It comes after general strikes took place on March 31 and April 29. Strike action in Belgium is more frequent in transport hubs and around the Schuman area (EU quarter) in Brussels. The Government is advising you monitor local news and check with your provider regarding potential delays and closures. Ryanair has been contacted for comment.
