The Southington zoning board this week said ‘yes’ to a permit to build the prominent company’s second such operation in town.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — A major auto parts retailer will open its second store in Southington after the local zoning board said ‘yes’ earlier this week to a permit to do just that.
The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday, Oct. 7, unanimously approved a site plan application for a developer to build an O’Reilly’s Auto Parts store at 1744 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike.
As a result, the developer will build a 7,225-square-foot retail building at the site, which is zoned for business.
The listed owner of the property is David R. Cayer of Marion (Southington), with the permit applicant listed as Bohler Engineering, a Massachusetts firm with an office in West Hartford.
Plans call for the construction of one building, along with associated parking (29 parking spaces), stormwater management, landscaping, and lighting.
O’Reilly — with its catchy commercial jingle — started out in Springfield, Mo., in 1957 and, now, currently has more than 6,400 stores across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
There are about 39 stores in Connecticut, including one already open in Southington.
Chaz Evans of Bohler Engineering presented the plans at Tuesday’s PZC meeting.
“With O’Reilly, this would be their second location in Southignton,” Evans said. “They do about 60 to 65 percent of their business to wholesale, selling to mechanics’ shops.”
He said the other Southington O’Reilly’s is on Queen Street in Southington, and this second location would allow for additional service to the public and mechanics.
Zoning board members went over multiple technical aspects of the plan as presented by Evans, but had no significant concerns.
Ultimately, the PZC supported the application and said “yes,” with the vote unanimous, 6-0.
