The Maharashtra government has made electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) verification compulsory for all beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme, giving them a two-month deadline to complete the process, news agency PTI reported on September 19. The decision was formalised through a government resolution (GR). The scheme, launched in July 2024, provides monthly financial support of ₹1,500 to women aged between 21 and 65 years whose annual household income does not exceed ₹2.5 lakh. Announcing the new requirement, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare said that the e-KYC facility is now live on the official portal, ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in. She urged beneficiaries to complete the verification process within the stipulated time, describing it as simple, convenient, and essential for transparency. According to Tatkare, the digital verification will not only ensure that benefits reach eligible women consistently but will also help streamline access to other government schemes in the future. The GR further states that women must complete their Aadhaar-based authentication within two months to continue receiving financial assistance directly into their bank accounts. Failure to do so will result in benefits being withheld. In addition, the verification will have to be carried out every year.Live Events The decision comes in the wake of government findings that nearly 26.34 lakh ineligible beneficiaries — including men– had managed to enrol in the scheme and received the allowance.
