Maharashtra has been reeling under the fury of relentless monsoon rains, leaving behind a trail of destruction across several districts. Over the past 24 hours, at least 11 lives have been lost, while more than 11,800 people have been rescued from flood-hit areas. From overflowing dams to emergency evacuations, the situation has gripped Marathwada, Nashik, and even Mumbai. Here are the top 10 updates on the state’s rain crisis. 1. 11 Deaths Reported Across Districts Four people, including three in a house collapse, died in Nashik district. Two lives were lost each in Dharashiv and Ahilyanagar, while one person each died in Jalna and Yavatmal, officials confirmed. 2. Over 11,800 People Rescued Statewide Rescue operations have been intensified, with more than 11,800 people shifted to safer areas. Around 7,000 residents in Paithan, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, had to be evacuated as the Jayakwadi dam waters swelled dangerously. 3. Jayakwadi Dam Overflows, Godavari Swells Authorities opened all gates of the Jayakwadi dam after the inflow into Marathwada’s largest reservoir crossed three lakh cusecs. The Godavari river has risen above the warning level in Nashik, submerging temples in the Ramkund area. 4. Mumbai Lashed by Heavy Rains The financial capital has been battered since Saturday night. On Sunday, several areas recorded more than 50 mm of rain between 8 am and 1 pm. While the island city and suburbs saw intense spells, vehicular and rail traffic remained largely unaffected. In Bhiwandi taluka alone, 262 residents from 71 families had to be rescued. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde has asked officials to keep emergency systems on high alert. 6. NDRF Teams on the Ground Sixteen NDRF teams have been deployed across Maharashtra, with two more kept on standby in Pune. In Beed, NDRF jawans rescued 12 stranded residents from Sangvi temple, while 970 people in Nanded were relocated to safer places. 7. CM Fadnavis Reviews Situation Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held a detailed review of the situation in Marathwada and Solapur. He ordered officials to remain on the ground and ensure swift evacuation, relief supply, and health camps for affected families. 8. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde Issues Red Alert Readiness With the IMD issuing a ‘red alert’ for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad, Shinde held video meetings with district collectors. He directed the evacuation of people from dangerous buildings and landslide-prone zones, emphasising that saving lives must remain the top priority. Jalna and Latur Hit Hard In Jalna, heavy rainfall across 26 revenue circles led to 48 out of 51 projects overflowing. About 225 citizens were relocated, and 52 were rescued from rising waters. In Latur, more than 500 citizens were housed in relief camps after roads and bridges were submerged. 10. Relief Camps and Aid Measures In Solapur, 4,002 people were rescued, with nearly 6,500 staying in relief camps. Families are being given Rs 10,000 in cash, along with rice and wheat. The Akshaya Patra Foundation has stepped in to provide food, while fodder supplies are being arranged for livestock. Large-scale health camps will begin this week to address rising concerns of waterborne diseases. Maharashtra Weather Forecast Maharashtra is expected to witness more rain in the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a ‘red alert’ for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds until Tuesday. In Nashik, heavy rain warnings remain in place, with stormy weather predicted over the next 48 hours. While Marathwada may see a slight reduction in intensity after the weekend’s deluge, excess rainfall is likely to continue across several districts, including Beed, Nanded and Parbhani. In Vidarbha, light to moderate showers are expected in Gondia, and very light rain in Nagpur, Wardha and Bhandara.
