Maharashtra government, on Monday, signed MOUs worth ₹56,000 crore to expand ports, build shipyards, develop clean fuel and promote water transport in Mumbai. “ It is proud moment for us as we are developing maritime ecosystem in the State. The total investment envisaged is ₹56,000 crore but apart from that there are strategic MOUs in areas of technology and human resources. With these MOUs we will move towards achieving our aim of making Maharashtra a maritime superpower,” State chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said. In all 15 MOUs were signed and the largest sum has been earmarked for expansion of Dighi port ( ₹42,000 crore). JSW Infrastructure Ltd has planned investing ₹3709 crore for expansion of its Jaigad and Dharamtar ports. Investment has also been committed by Chowgule group, Synergy Shipbuilders and Goa shipyard to develop shipyards in the State. Agreements signed Agreements were also signed with IIT Bombay for skilling and with Swedish firm Candela for passenger transport. Minister of ports Nitesh Rane said water transport system is getting transformed which will ease commute for residents for the State.
