President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening media freedom and safeguarding information integrity, describing the country’s role as a continental leader in supporting independent journalism and democratic governance. Speaking at the closing session of the 2025 Paris Peace Forum on Information Integrity and Independent Media, President Mahama said his administration is taking concrete steps to reinforce the foundations of credible and ethical journalism both locally and globally. He announced that Ghana has joined the Partnership for Information and Democracy as a full member and will also support the International Fund for Public Interest Media, a global initiative dedicated to strengthening independent media and combating misinformation. “Ghana is joining the Partnership for Information and Democracy as a full member and will support the International Fund for Public Interest Media,” President Mahama said. “This is yet another indication that Ghana remains steadfast in advancing the frontiers of freedom, upholding the rule of law, and serving as a model nation in promoting democracy and good governance.” The president participated in a high-level dialogue alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and other world leaders, where discussions focused on the future of information integrity and global democracy. President Mahama said the exchange provided an opportunity to highlight Ghana’s consistent record in promoting press freedom, transparency, and responsible journalism. “We must continue to support journalists and institutions that stand for integrity and accountability, demand transparency and ethical responsibility from digital and AI platforms, and strengthen international cooperation to protect information as a shared global asset,” he added. The 2025 Paris Peace Forum brought together global leaders, policymakers, and media stakeholders to discuss the challenges of misinformation, disinformation, and the future of trustworthy information in the digital age. Ghana’s participation and new commitments, President Mahama said, reaffirm the country’s long-standing position as a champion of press freedom and a strong advocate for truth, integrity, and democratic governance.
