Magic: The Gathering's 2026 sets feature Marvel Super Heroes, The Hobbit & Star Trek

Wizards of the Coast kicked off one of the biggest weekends of the year for Magic: The Gathering in grand fashion. MagicCon: Atlanta featured a special preview panel announcing what's next for the long-running card game. There are a whopping seven expansions that are set to release in 2026 and that includes some major crossovers. Those crossovers include another collaboration with Marvel, a journey into the world of The Hobbit, and going where no one has gone before with Star Trek. The Wizards of the Coast team acknowledges that seven expansions is an odd release and emphasizes that this will not be the standard going forward. For 2026, here's the tentative schedule: Lorwyn Eclipsed (January 23): The MTG year begins with a return to a fan favorite setting. Lorwyn Eclipsed marks a return to the realm of Lorwyn. Expect to see some familiar creatures as Planeswalkers tag along with some Strixhaven students for a grander look at the strange realm. Untitled Universes Beyond (TBA): The second MTG set of 2026 is currently a mystery. The curtain for this expansion will be pulled back at New York Comic Con on Friday, October 10. Secrets of Strixhaven (April 2026): After journeying with Strixhaven students in Lorwyn Eclipsed, April's set will go back to their home academy of Strixhaven University. This set will explore life both on and off campus as graduates venture out into the real world and explore their new lives. Marvel Super Heroes (June 2026): Fresh off the recent success of the Marvel's Spider-Man set, Wizards of the Coast is continuing its collaboration with the House of Ideas and exploring the other heroes and villains from the Marvel Universe. The Hobbit (August 2026): Over two years have passed since Magic: The Gathering crossed over with The Lord of the Rings. On Friday, Wizards of the Coast announced that Magic will explore more of Tolkien's world with a set based on The Hobbit, which will feature recognizable characters like Bilbo Baggins and Smaug. Reality Fracture (October 2026): Wizards of the Coast is teasing a major narrative shift with this set. A mysterious villain promises to shake the world of Magic to the core. For now, that's all that the team is saying. Expect to learn more as the October release window approaches. Star Trek (November 2026): Earlier this summer, Popverse posted a phony story about a Magic: The Gathering Star Trek set designed as a giant SEO stunt. As Commander Riker himself would say in a myriad of ways, it was fiction. It wasn't true... at least, it wasn't at the time. There was some truth to the story, even if Popverse and everyone caught up in the rumor didn't realize it. To conclude 2026, Wizards of the Coast does have an official Star Trek set lined up. This set will feature characters, stories, and ships from across Star Trek's many eras. Look for more information as the November release window draws closer. Look for these sets to come to both Magic: The Gathering and MTG Arena. Pre-orders for Lorwyn Eclipsed are available now at local retailers, as well as Amazon. Images for the Lorwyn Eclipsed set are going up today on the Magic: The Gathering website.
