MAFS UK viewers rage at ‘heartless’ treatment of sapphic contestant: ‘The audacity’

Married At First Sight UK (MAFS UK) is back on Channel 4, but the awkward outcome of brides Leah and Leigh getting hitched already has viewers fuming.

In episode three, which aired last night (23 September), business owner Leah and NHS Clinical Coder Leigh met each other for the first time – in their wedding dresses, at the altar.

After saying their vows, it immediately became clear that Leah wasn’t quite what Leigh was looking for, as she didn’t have enough “masculine energy” and was more femme.

While Leah, who first began dating women in her mid 20s, said that she was attracted to Leigh, Leigh said that Leah was “stunning” but that she didn’t fancy her.

“She’s absolutely stunning but I’m not sure if she does have a masculine side, so am I gonna fancy her? In this moment, I don’t feel like I do. Sh*t,” she said in her to-camera interview after the nuptials.

During the vows, Leigh, who is spiritual, gave Leah a rose quartz, which Leah proceeded to call a “stone”.

An evidently irritated Leigh then said during her interview: “F**king hell, I’m a bit apprehensive. She’s not what I normally go for and I’m worried I made a mistake.”

When the wedding officiant said that they could kiss, Leigh suggested that they only do so on the cheek. Later, during their wedding photographs, Leigh refused several times to kiss – even on the cheek – or get her face close to Leah’s. She then pressed her new wife on how she identifies, as masc or femme.

“Leah does come across really feminine,” Leigh said. “I wanna get to know if she does have a masculine side to find that physical attraction. But I’m worried that that won’t come. F**k.”

Then, while still at the ceremony, Leigh requested Leah “respect [her] boundaries” and give her her own space.

“I recharge by having my own time. I just might need a couple of hours to myself,” she said. Later, on their wedding night, she requested to spend the night solo.

“How would you feel if we spent this evening on our own?” she asked, before offering her help with taking her suitcase away. “I’ll see you out,” she said.

Leah, clearly perplexed and a little upset, vowed that if Leigh’s hesitation continued, she would leave the process.

Online, MAFS UK fans have raged at Leigh for coming across as “cold” and “rude” for dismissing Leah “after a nanosecond of meeting her”.

Not Leigh getting the ick bc her *wife* looks *feminine* on her wedding day and bc she called a stone a rock #mafsuk pic.twitter.com/VzhyHQP55U— eugène (@eugeneroug0n) September 23, 2025

So Leigh wants someone not too feminine… but a little feminine… not too masculine…but also masculine, but not in between?#MAFSUK pic.twitter.com/Ka0MO3QaHw— wirgo (@wwpowroznik) September 23, 2025

“Heartless. Cold. Who signs up for Married at First Sight and asks her bride to leave on the first night? Who does she think she is? Completely entitled. And kicks her down even more asking if she needs help with her suitcase. Rude,” one viewer wrote on X.

“First night after their wedding and Leigh kicks Leah out of the door and into another room and has the audacity to ask if she wants help with her suitcase,” a second raged.

A third questioned: “How is Leigh deciding Leah doesn’t have a masculine energy after a nanosecond of meeting her?!”

“Not Leigh getting the ick bc her *wife* looks *feminine* on her wedding day and bc she called a stone a rock,” wrote another dumbstruck fan, as another decried that “barely any of the matches this year make any sense”.

Others compared Leah and Leigh’s relationship to last year’s queer couple Eve and Charlie, whose marriage was dubbed “toxic” from the very start.

Married At First Sight UK continues on Channel 4 at 9pm BST and Channel 4 streaming.
