M6 crash update as man seriously injured while standing by broken down van

A van driver was left with serious head injuries after a collision with a HGV on the M6. The man, who is in his 20s, was standing near his broken-down vehicle on the southbound carriageway when a collision occurred. Medics found the injured man off the carriage way and behind the barrier, in a potentially life-threatening condition. He was given specialist trauma care which continued on route to Royal Stoke University Hospital. A force spokesperson said: "Officers were called shortly before midnight on Monday (November 3) to the southbound carriageway between junctions 13 and 12 following reports of a collision. "Officers attended along with colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Highways. A lorry and a van were involved. "The driver of the van, which had broken down prior to the collision, was standing near to the van when he was involved in the collision. "The man, in his 20s, was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious head injuries. The other driver did not report any injuries. "Anyone with information, or relevant dashcam footage, should contact the force." Information can be passed on by calling 101, quoting incident number 861 of November 3. Alternatively, email collision investigators directly at ciu@staffordshire.police.uk. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of an RTC involving a HGV and a stationary van on the M6 between junction 12/13 southbound and sent two ambulances, three paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car from Cosford to the scene. "On arrival, crews found a man, who was off the carriage way and behind the barrier, in a potentially life-threatening condition and immediately began administering specialist trauma care which continued on route to Royal Stoke University Hospital."
