'Lux' TV Series At Amazon MGM Studios In Development

EXCLUSIVE: Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Lux TV series, based on Jennifer L. Armentrout‘s bestselling paranormal fantasy book series for Entangled Publishing, with Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders (Smallville) aboard to showrun and exec produce.
Liz Pelletier, CEO & founder of Entangled, will exec produce alongside her Premeditated partner Sherryl Clark, under the latter company’s three-year first-look film and television deal with the studio. Premeditated’s SVP of Television Julie Jarmon will co-EP, with author Armentrout also on board to exec produce.
An instant bestseller, the Lux book series follows 17-year-old Katy Swartz, who moves to a small town in West Virginia, only to discover that her neighbors and new friends, Daemon and Dee Black, are part of a powerful alien race hiding in plain sight. After Daemon saves Katy’s life by healing her with his powers, an unbreakable bond forms between them, drawing Katy deeper into a world of supernatural threats, government conspiracies, and a forbidden love that could ignite a war capable of tearing their worlds apart.
Running from 2011-2015, the book series has sold 2.5 million copies and counting. The first two installments recently hit the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists after being re-issued as deluxe auditions. Author Armentrout has written 70+ titles across five genres, and has been published in 18 territories. On TikTok, content related to her books has garnered over 300 million views.
Peterson and Kelly Souders are known for their work on Smallville, where they served as showrunners for the final three seasons, and The CW’s Beauty & the Beast. They previously ran The Hot Zone for National Geographic and consulted on Nat Geo’s Genius: Picasso and Genius: Einstein. Prior to that, they lent their executive producing services to WGN’s flagship show, Salem. They have also consulted on CBS’s Under the Dome and USA’s Political Animals.
Premeditated’s slate includes a slew of projects in development at Amazon MGM Studios, including a series adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ bestselling fantasy novel Fourth Wing. Feature projects with Amazon include an adaptation of #1 New York Times bestselling romantasy Shield of Sparrows with Derek Kolstad as writer-EP, rom-com 69 Million Things I Hate About You, teen time-travel comedy Repeat After Me, and thriller Survive. Outside of the Amazon deal, Premeditated is developing the hit book series Assistant to the Villain for television with Legendary.
Premeditated is repped by IAG and Caitlin DiMotta at TroyGould PC. Souders and Peterson are repped by WME, Range Media Partners, and Michael Gendler at Gendler, Kelly, and Cunningham. Armentrout is repped by Lucy Stille Literary and Kevan Lyon of Marsal Lyon Literary Agency.
