Louisville City Council: Cooperman leading in Ward 1

Early election results Tuesday showed incumbent Josh Cooperman leading against Denise Montagu in the Ward 1 race for the Louisville City Council. As of 7:45 p.m., Cooperman had 54.5% of the vote and Montagu had 45.5% of the vote, according to the Boulder County clerk’s website. In Ward 2, incumbent Judi Kern ran uncontested, and in Ward 3, incumbent Dietrich Hoefner ran uncontested. Cooperman, a “freelance physicist,” according to his LinkedIn, has served on the City Council as the Ward 1 representative since November 2024. Cooperman’s 2025 campaign for the City Council consisted of things including advancing climate solutions, supporting local businesses and creating more affordable housing in Louisville. He has also been a proponent of Louisville joining the Boulder Office of Disaster Management. In October, Cooperman joined the rest of the Louisville City Council in opposing Ballot Measures 300 and 301. Montagu’s 2025 campaign for the City Council consisted of things including supporting small businesses, new investment in Louisville and housing policies that encourage a mix of options — including smaller homes, patio homes and multi-family units — that don’t “conflict with our community character.” On her campaign website, Montagu said she would like to ensure that sustainability efforts like Louisville’s Sustainability Action Plan, last updated in 2020, are “cost-effective, business-conscious, and implemented with input from the people who keep our local economy running.” Montagu served about six years on the Thompson School District Board of Education.
