Lorraine Kelly says ‘I'm the first to leave' as she opens up in rare marriage insight

TV host Lorraine Kelly has opened up about the stark contrast between herself and her husband Steve Smith, reflecting on the balance she maintains between her public persona and private life. Lorraine , 65, has been married to her husband Steve for 33 years after their wedding in 1992. Together, they have one daughter, 31-year-old Rosie. In a frank interview with The Guardian in March, Lorraine talked about the primary difference between the pair: “I am not the life and soul of the party. My husband is. “I’m the first one there and the first to leave. I’m at my happiest with people I trust and know, watching something on the telly and having a nice meal.” Lorraine also touched upon how her television presence differs from who she is behind the scenes, noting that while there are elements of truth, she consciously creates a distinction. She elaborated: “I am a version of me on the telly. And yes, I’m kind of like that, but I’m a lot more open, a lot more sweary. And I’m not that person. There’s nobody that goes on television who is themselves.” Elsewhere, Lorraine has been promoting her breast cancer awareness initiative Change + Check. During an appearance on Loose Women, she urged women to perform regular self-examinations for lumps. Regarding the frequency of checks, she recommended: “Once a month, every two weeks, it’s really up to you. It’s about your normal though. Some women have got lumpy boobies. It’s whatever suits you. For me, I do it once a month.” Following her advice, Lorraine added a cheeky comment, she said: “But my husband checks my boobies quite regularly.” She then quickly redirected the conversation to the significance of her message and emphasised: “Anything that gets the message across! Anything at all.” Now in its seventh year, the Change + Check campaign has launched the ‘National Check Your Boobs Day’ that it hopes will become an annual event, aimed at encouraging proactive breast cancer checks. Breast cancer is a condition that affects thousands of women across the UK. In a statement on the campaign, Lorraine said: “Every year the campaign just gets bigger and bigger, and I am so proud of the work we’ve done and the lives we’ve helped to save. “Launching Britain’s first ever ‘National Check Your Boobs Day’ is a huge step forward and will hopefully be a crucial reminder for everyone to prioritise their breast health. “This is something that truly matters to me, and I’m so grateful for all the support we receive from the public and our partners to get this vital message out there.”
