Lorenzo Musetti has admitted that he hopes to face fellow compatriot Jannik Sinner in the final of the Vienna Open. Both players are currently competing at the ATP 500 tournament in Austria ahead of the Paris Masters. Musetti is still chasing his first title of the season. The former World No.6 made a name for himself during the clay court swing, reaching the final of the Monte Carlo Masters before losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the final. He then went on to reach the semi-finals of the Madrid Open and lost to Jack Draper. His best run was at the French Open, where he got to the semi-finals before retiring against Alcaraz. The last time he got to a tournament final was at the Chengdu Open in September, where he fell to Alejandro Tabilo despite being the better player. The Italian star faced Corentin Moutet in the round of 16 on Friday (October 24). He defeated the Frenchman in straight sets, making it his third consecutive win at the Vienna Open without dropping a set. He will face Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals on Saturday (October 25) and will hope to beat the German star. He currently holds a 3-1 head-to-head lead over Zverev and has won all their last three meetings. After beating Moutet, he was asked about the likelihood of facing Sinner in the final. The 23-year-old admitted that he hopes to face the Italian in the final as it will be great for the fans to see two Italians compete on the court: It often happens that Italians face each other in the draws, and it will happen again in Paris. It’s great for the fans, but it’s not easy for us to play against each other almost every week, but it’s a sign that there are so many of us at a high level. Jannik [Sinner]? He’s simply extraordinary right now. Indoors, he’s in perfect condition; he’s winning a lot and it’s truly impressive. I hope, who knows, to be able to challenge him soon, maybe on Sunday. Sinner will play Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals and he’s the favorite to win the clash as he currently holds an 11-0 head-to-head lead over the Australian star. Meanwhile, Sinner and Musetti have only faced each other three times on the court, and the former leads the latter 3-0. They last met at the US Open, where Sinner defeated Musetti in straight sets. Lorenzo Musetti hopes to earn a place in the ATP Finals this season One major thing on Lorenzo Musetti’s mind is to earn a slot in the ATP Finals. The Italian’s hopes to achieve that got easier after Casper Ruud and Felix Auger-Aliassime withdrew from their matches at the Swiss Indoor tournament. Both stars were challenging for a place in the ATP Finals but now have only the Paris Masters to do that.
