Longmont football was ruled ineligible for the Class 4A state playoffs.

After initially being seeded as the 24th and last team to qualify for the Class 4A state playoffs, Longmont football found out Monday that Skyline will take its place instead. A text statement sent to BoCoPreps from the CHSAA office said: “Longmont High was deemed ineligible to take the 24th seed playoff spot due to an unintentional administrative oversight that resulted in a self-reported rules violation. Skyline High School, the next eligible team in the seeding data, will assume Longmont’s place in the postseason bracket and will travel to No. 9 Northfield as the No. 24 seed.” Text screenshots from a source close to the situation confirmed that issues with an ineligible player led to the last-second swap. Coaches had been mistakenly told he was permitted to play, but because he wasn’t, they’ll now have to vacate all of the games he played in. They won three of 10 games. Representatives from Longmont High School and Longmont football could not be reached for comment. Skyline, which earlier in the season defeated Longmont 55-33, will now play Northfield in the first round in lieu of the Trojans. That game will be held at All-City Stadium on Saturday at 6 p.m. “We have no comment on what happened at Longmont,” Skyline athletic director Lindsay Yost said. “They’re a district school we respect and value our relationship with. For us, we are happy to be in the playoffs and we are excited for our kids and community. “It’s such an exciting time for our school and football program. Over the past two seasons, Coach (Justin) Vogt has really elevated the standard for what it means to be a Skyline football player. He’s built a culture of accountability, consistency, and pride that shows up not only in how our athletes compete, but in how they represent our school. One of the officials at a recent home game even commented that this is one of the most disciplined Skyline teams he’s seen in years — and that speaks volumes about the direction our program is headed.” The Falcons finished their regular season with a 4-6 record. Their playoff berth comes on the heels of back-to-back seasons that saw identical 1-9 records.
