Lonestar Cell MTN launches 5th Edition of MTN Y’ello Star competition

Monrovia, Liberia; September 16, 2025 – Top GSM company Lonestar Cell MTN has officially launched the 5th Edition of the MTN Y’ello star musical competition for Liberians.

Theme for the competition, “From Dreamers to Doers,” highlights MTN’s mission to unlock the innate musical potential of Liberians and provide a platform where dreams are transformed into reality.

At the well-attended launch, Mr. C. Foday Emeh, Manager of Corporate Communications & CSI at Lonestar Cell MTN, delivered welcome remarks.

He emphasized the company’s renewed commitment to raising the bar in 2025, saying: “From the quality of prizes to the prowess of our judges and the overall standard of the competition.

He said the competition this year promises to be more exciting than ever before, as the 2025 panel of judges brings a wealth of expertise and credibility to the competition:

Veteran broadcaster Chris Wolo, celebrated songstress Vivian Akoto, and prolific musician F Dot A. told the audience that their diverse perspectives and industrial experience will ensure that Liberia’s next breakout star is selected on the basis of true skill and artistry.

Adding inspiration to the launch, last year’s winner Miss Benkies Dolo was in attendance, and shared her journey through Season 4, describing the lessons, challenges, and triumphs that led to her emergence as winner.

To the delight of the audience, she also graced the stage with a moving performance, demonstrating how MTN Y’ello Star transforms dreamers into doers.

As in previous years, auditions will be conducted both in-person across Liberia’s counties and through online submissions, giving aspiring artists from all corners of the country equal opportunity to shine.

According to the company, the competition will progress to live shows, which will be broadcast nationwide, capturing the journey of participants as they transition from dreamers to doers.

Jonathan Baker, Project Lead of MTN Y’ello Star and Head of Digital Marketing at Lonestar Cell MTN, gave a breakdown of this year edition’s prizes, they include: 3rd Winner – LRD 400,000 cash prize, 100 GB data per month for a year and 1 Year Performance Deal with MTN.

2nd Winner- LRD 600,000, Record Deal, LRD 300,000 Wardrobe Allowance, Sensitivity: Public1 Year Performance Deal with MTN, 100 GB data per month for a year.

1st Winner- Grand Prize is a brand-new car, 100 GB data per month for a year, LRD 500,000 Cash Prize, LRD 2,000,000 Record deal & 1 Year Performance Deal with MTN.
