Local fishermen and chefs join forces to shape the future of the blue economy

The Sabors de la Mar project, an initiative designed to highlight the quality and value of locally caught fish as well as the crucial role of the fishing industry in the region’s cultural and gastronomic identity, is hosting two key professional events for the sector. Under the title Taula d’Experts: De la Llotja al Plat (“Experts’ Table: From the Market to the Plate”), these sessions are aimed at professionals from the fishing, distribution, and hospitality industries, with the goal of discussing and developing concrete strategies for the future of sustainable, locally sourced fishing. Strategic debate dates and venues The first roundtable will take place on November 6 at 6pm at the CdT Marina Alta in Denia. The second session will follow a week later, on November 13 at 6pm at Espai La Senieta in Moraira. Analysing the entire value chain During both sessions, experts representing the four key links in the value chain will debate topics such as sustainability, logistics challenges, and culinary innovation: Production: Represented by Juan Antonio Sepulcre, Senior Skipper of the Denia Fishermen’s Guild, and Diego Noguera, Senior Skipper of the Moraira Fishermen’s Guild. Sustainability: Featuring Dr César Bordehore, Marine Biologist and Doctor in Marine Ecology (Denia session), and Dr Damián Fernández, Biologist and Doctor in Marine Sciences (Moraira session). Distribution: With input from Miller Marques, Head of Purchasing at MyMercat, offering the perspective of large-scale retail. Innovation and training: Presented by Evarist Miralles, Chef Instructor at CdT Marina Alta. Each event will conclude with a networking coffee designed to foster collaboration and new business opportunities among attendees. This project is led by Creama, acting as the technical secretariat of Pacte’Ma (the Regional Agreement for Employment and Local Development in the Marina Alta), and is funded by the Conselleria de Agricultura, Agua, Ganadería y Pesca through the European Union’s Local Action Groups for Fisheries Programme, in line with the Participatory Local Strategy of GALP La Marina. The initiative receives financial support from the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund and the Generalitat Valenciana, promoting the development of a blue economy in coastal areas through grants awarded to Creama as part of Pacte’Ma’s regional development strategy.
