LNER and Thameslink issue 'do not travel' statements after multiple stabbed on UK train

Major train operators have issued statements after multiple people were stabbed aboard a UK train this evening - with unconfirmed reports suggesting 10 injured. Police raced to Huntingdon train station in Cambridgeshire where they arrested two men on the platform. The authorities confirmed that 30 police officers are in attendance, including armed police. The stabbing occurred on a LNER service from London King's Cross to Doncaster, before the train was able to pass through Huntingdon. It is believed that a number of people have been taken to hospital, with the severity of their condition currently unknown. While the police and emergency services deal with the continually unfolding incident, train operators have shared advise for worried passengers either stranded at Huntingdon, trying to reach there or attempting to pass through. LNER (London North Eastern Railway) released a statement and said: "We are aware of an incident involving one of our trains. Our immediate concern is for the welfare of our customers and crew who are on board. "We are in the process of gathering all the details we can and are liaising with British Transport Police." The train operator issued advice to passengers who are looking to travel on LNER services through the impacted station. They confirmed that the disruption is to be expected until the end of the day. In an earlier statement, LNER said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident at Huntingdon all lines are blocked. Train services running through this station may be delayed. Disruption is expected until the end of the day. "Please check before you travel." For those who are yet to start their rail journey, LNER strongly advised 'do not travel. They said: "Our advice is 'Do Not Travel'. Please defer your travel where you can. "Your existing ticket will be valid to use up to and including Monday 03 November. Please make a new seat reservation for your newly intended journey here. "If you're unable to make it home this evening due to our 'Do Not Travel' advice please either book yourself a hotel and claim back the cost of your stay to customers@lner.co.uk. Please include a copy of your train tickets and your hotel receipt. Alternatively you can claim back the cost of a taxi to complete your journey." Thameslink also shared an update on X, advising passengers travelling to or from Huntingdon to find an alternative route. The statement reads: "At this time, Huntingdon station is closed and no trains will call here in either direction until further notice. If you are travelling FROM Huntingdon, you will need to use an alternative route of travel or travel later on today where possible. "If you are travelling to Huntingdon, From Peterborough, please speak to station staff and alternative travel will be arranged. From the direction of Hitchin, please instead travel to St Neots/Peterborough and speak to staff for alternative transport. You should allow 30 minutes additional to complete your destination." Thameslink, whose services stop at Huntingdon station, announced that trains running between the stations of Stevenage and "may be delayed by up to 120 minutes or revised." The train operator has also shared LNER's announcement of 'do not travel' on their website. They added that "major disruption is expected until the end of the day." Thameslink also confirmed that trains in both directions, to and from Peterborough which is the next station to Huntingdon, have been suspended until further notice. Those trying to reach Huntingdon, Peterborough and stations in between there and Stevenage - Arlesey, Biggleswade, Sandy and St Neots - have been advised to alight at Hitchin and consult station staff for further information. More information for LNER customers, you can access the advice here. For those travelling with Thameslink, you can find out more here. The Huntingdonshire force released a statement on their official Facebook page, Policing Huntingdonshire, and said: "We were called at 7.39pm with reports that multiple people had been stabbed on a train. "Armed officers attended and the train was stopped at Huntingdon, where two men were arrested. A number of people have been taken to hospital. "The incident remains ongoing and the A1307 has been closed as you approach the town centre. "Officers are working with British Transport Police, who are leading on the incident." The authorities have urged that anyone with any information should report this online at Cambs Police by quoting incident 495 of today (1 November). If you cannot access the internet, then it is advised to call 101 with any relevant information.
