After the Detroit Lions opened the season with a 27-13 Week 1 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Detroit quarterback Jared Goff found himself answering questions about whether or not current offensive coordinator John Morton was a suitable replacement for former OC Ben Johnson.
The Lions have since notched back-to-back victories and are coming off a statement 38-30 win at the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night. During a Tuesday appearance on Detroit radio station 97.1 The Ticket, Goff seemingly referenced how opinions of the Lions changed in a hurry.
Jared Goff and Detroit Lions kept receipts
“I don’t know if I’m looking to crush any narratives,” Goff explained during the segment, per Will Burchfield of Audacy. “It’s fun to go on the road against a really good team and go win that game. …I think back two weeks ago, the sky was falling. I won’t forget about that, everyone that thought we were done. And certainly we’ll remember that for the rest of the year and use it as a little motivation.”
From the start of Detroit’s 52-21 Week 2 win over the Chicago Bears through the end of Monday’s contest, Goff completed 76.8 percent of his pass attempts for 536 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions.
According to Pro Football Reference, he enters Week 4 leading the NFL among qualified players with a 77.9 percent completion percentage for the season. He’s also third with an 81.7 adjusted QBR and second with a 120.2 passer rating. Meanwhile, ESPN stats show that the Lions are second in the league with 34.3 points scored per game and third with 394.3 total yards gained per contest.
Jared Goff and Detroit Lions are having fun
Goff added during the interview that the victory over Baltimore “was one of [his] favorites” since he first joined the Lions in 2021.
“Just going on the road, ‘Monday Night Football,’ it’s a really good team, raucous environment, really, really fun to get a win,” Goff added.
As of Wednesday morning, ESPN BET had the 2-1 Lions as 8.5-point favorites for this coming Sunday’s home game against the 1-2 Cleveland Browns. The Browns defense ranks first in the league in total yards allowed per game (204.3).
