Lions Get Bad Injury News Right Before Ravens Game

After a rough start to the season, the Detroit Lions did what they do best and fought back to win their second game of the season, which was against former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears. It was really sweet to get that 52-21 victory, especially knowing that they were beating Johnson and a rival in the NFC North, but now, the Lions have a huge opponent ahead.
The Lions will go up against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, September 22, and the world will be watching, because the game will be on the big Monday Night Football stage. Ahead of the game, the Lions are working hard to be at their best, and even though they’re underdogs, some outlets think they’re going to pull off a surprise win. “Yes, Detroit was sluggish in the opener, but I believe it is much closer to the club that we saw just drop 52 points in Week 2,” notes Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports in a Thursday, September 18 feature. “The Lions are also equipped to attack what has been a beatable Ravens run defense with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. I certainly like the Lions with the points and see them coming out of Week 3 on top.”
Winning this game would be fantastic, but the Detroit Lions are already facing some serious injury news, and it’s not the good kind. One of their key players could already be done for the season.
Key Detroit Lions Player Could Be Out All Season
On Friday, September 19, Colton Pouncey of The Athletic, veteran defensive end Marcus Davenport, who is a great compliment to Aidan Hutchinson, wasn’t at practice. “We’re still trying to decide what to do,” Campbell said in a meeting with reporters in Allen Park on Saturday, September 20. “We’ve got some other tests back.”
There’s been plenty of reaction to Davenport’s injury. In a Friday, September 19 piece for Detroit Jock City, Jovan Alford says that this “also calls into question his role in this defense for the rest of the season as well.” He adds that “this is the last thing you want to hear if you’re the veteran defensive end, as you’ve already missed most of last season because of a season-ending triceps injury. As we know of, this current injury doesn’t seem to be a season-ending situation.”
Davenport, of course, missed a lot of last season, too. He’s playing on a one-year contract, so if he’s out for much of this season, it’s difficult to imagine him having a role with the Detroit Lions going forward.
Positive Detroit Lions News
It’s not all doom and gloom. In some positive news, linebacker Jack Campbell and left tackle Taylor Decker were back at practice for the Detroit Lions on Friday.
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has sung Decker’s praises to the media. “He’s an incredible left tackle in our league and good leader on our team and valuable piece of that front line, obviously,” he said, as reported by MLive. “Having him out there as kind of like a calming veteran presence is always massive and he just continues to get better.”
