Stranger Things season five’s new trailer has revealed more details about Linda Hamilton’s role in the Netflix phenomenon’s explosive finale. The fifth and final season will bring an end to the stories of Eleven (played by Millie Bobby Brown) and her friends as the town of Hawkins is once again under threat from the powerful Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). Released in three parts over the next two months, season five is expected to be one of the streaming giant’s biggest new releases. Already known for featuring legendary stars from beloved sci-fi and fantasy franchises, such as The Lord of the Rings’ Sean Astin and A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Robert Englund, the finale is continuing the tradition with The Terminator icon Hamilton joining the fray. She’s best known for portraying Sarah Connor in the first two action thrillers opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger, reprising the role in 2019 sequel Terminator: Dark Fate. Hamilton will next be seen playing a mysterious character known as Dr Kay in Stranger Things season five, described as another antagonist for Eleven, Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Steve (Joe Keery) and the gang to deal with alongside their battle with Vecna. However, despite being billed as a hindrance to the core cast, it appears she could eventually become another one of their allies from the new footage. During a thrilling battle teased in the trailer, Dr Kay seems to be firing her gun at waves of Demogorgons from the Upside Down. It’s speculated that she’ll be playing a major role in the military quarantine placed around the town of Hawkins as the dark alternate dimension begins to seep into the real world . As Eleven and her friends have already caused trouble for the government in previous seasons, Dr Kay will want to keep them far away from the military’s efforts to contain the situation, at least at first. But, as the trailer confirms, Vecna has unfinished business with the main group, particularly Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), who becomes ensnared by the powerful mastermind previously known as Henry Creel. When Dr Kay realises how high the stakes really are, she may be forced to go along with the Hawkins gang’s plan and fight alongside them. Teasing Hamilton’s role in the season, co-creator Matt Duffer recently told Empire: “She’s hyper-intelligent and intimidating. “She’s a scientist but if she needs to, she can get into a fight and shoot a gun.” What are your biggest theories for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things? Stranger Things season 5 part 1 will be released Wednesday, 26th November on Netflix followed by part 2 on 25th December and the final episode on December 31st.
