A 34-year-old woman has appeared in court over the alleged murder of a five-week-old baby. Amy Clarke appeared at Birmingham Crown Court via videolink from HMP Foston Hall. She entered pleas to eight alleged offences. The defendant denied the murder and manslaughter of young Darcy-Leigh Jefferson. She also denied causing or allowing a child to die, two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm, and cruelty to a person under 16 years of age. Clarke, of Enots Close, Lichfield, donned a white top and beige cardigan during the short hearing on Thursday, September 25. Sean Jefferson, 35, of Birch Court, Walsall, pleaded not guilty to the same charges faced by Clarke during a hearing in June at Stafford Crown Court. The alleged offences are said to have taken place between February 20 and March 27, 2022. Judge Andrew Smith KC said Clarke and Jefferson will stand trial on January 14. Their trial is expected to take place at Stafford Crown Court. We have a suite of newsletters, tailored to your needs.
