LIC expects strong insurance demand in H2

Life Insurance Corporation of India said it expected strong demand for its products in the second half of the year, after it reported a 32 per cent rise in the September quarter net profit, due to a better product mix and lower commission payouts. It reported net profit of ₹10,053 crore in Q2, while net premium income rose 5.5 per cent to ₹1.26 lakh crore. The cut in Goods and Services Tax (GST) on insurance policies will lead to more demand, said CEO and MD R Doraiswamy during an earnings call. In response to questions on the impact due to the removal of input tax credit, Doraiswamy said he did not expect any significant effect in the quarter under review, though the company was closely monitoring the fallout in subsequent quarters. The insurer’s total AUM rose a little over 3 per cent to ₹57.2 lakh crore. Solvency ratio up It also reported an increase in the solvency ratio to 2.13 per cent from 1.98 per cent year ago. Value of new business, which measures expected profit from new business, increased 12.3 per cent to ₹5111 crore, while VNB margin increased 140 bps to 17.6 per cent. At the end of the half year LIC’s market share at 59.4 per cent was lower than the 61 per cent it had in the year ago period. Published on November 6, 2025
