Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari collection proves he was a hardcore fan of the iconic red cars even during his Mercedes Formula One racing days. The sheer passion and heritage behind the prancing horse emblem led him to join the Maranello-based outfit this season, with a dream of securing his record-breaking eighth championship title.
While his debut Ferrari season has been filled with challenges, as he gets used to his SF-25 F1 car at different circuits, his personal now-former Ferrari collection suggests he can’t get enough of the horsepower and speed that come in red. The list of Ferraris Hamilton has owned is below.
LaFerrari
Paired with an electric motor, the LaFerrari’s 6.3-liter V12 produced a total output of 963 hp. The car was pitched against its popular contenders, the Porsche 918 and the McLaren P1, during its era from 2013 to 2016. Hamilton bought his Rosso Fuoco LaFerrari during the 2015 season, when he was still racing for the Brackley-based outfit.
LaFerrari Aperta
Hamilton went on to enjoy the more exclusive version of the LaFerrari, the LaFerrari Aperta, as only 210 were built in two years between 2016 and 2018. While it featured the removable Targa roof, it was slightly different from the regular LaFerrari, given the minor aero modifications. Hamilton bought his pearlescent glossy white unit in 2018.
Ferrari 599 GTO
Powered by a 6.0-liter, naturally aspirated V12 engine producing 670 bhp, the 599 GTO was the seven-time world champion’s first Ferrari, which he bought in 2010. However, unlike the conventional Ferrari red one may opt for, Hamilton got his delivered in black. He reportedly sold the car in 2017.
Ferrari 599 SA Aperta
Just two years later, the Briton went for an even rarer Ferrari, the 599 SA Aperta. Only 80 units of the car are said to have been made. While the performance matches his GTO, the Targa look stands out. A used car, if found anywhere, would be worth more than $1 million.
In addition to the Ferraris, Hamilton’s collection featured the Mercedes-AMG Project One, Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6, 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, the 1995 McLaren F1, and even a special edition Pagani Zonda 760 LH. However, the big twist is that the 40-year-old driver admitted to selling off his entire car collection recently, given a change of interest in his life. Newsweek Sports reported his comments:
“I don’t have any cars anymore. I got rid of all my cars. I’m more into art nowadays.”
However, Hamilton revealed one car that he would have. It is a Ferrari. He added:
“If I was going to get a car, it’d be an F40.”
The F40 was the last car to be approved by Enzo Ferrari and the first production car to go past the 200 mph mark, courtesy of the 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine churning 478 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 426 lb-ft (577 Nm) of torque.
