As a retired mental health provider, educator, and grandparent, I am sickened that our current laws do so little to keep the terror of gun violence out of our schools. Our kids’ classrooms are darkened by the necessity of practice drills to protect themselves from that violence. We’ve got to do better at keeping guns out of the wrong hands.
Extreme risk protection orders (ERPOs) empower family members to go directly through a court to temporarily limit an unstable person’s access to firearms. You can help by supporting Question 2 in the November election.
With student anxiety levels increasing and test scores going down, it’s past time that we do all we can to help our kids feel safe in school. Our laws should reflect the value we place on their lives, their learning, and their right to a peaceful childhood. Please join me in voting “yes” on Question 2.
