To the editor: Federal Communications Commission Brendan Carr is abusing his charter by targeting Jimmy Kimmel and perhaps others soon.
By going after political opponents with the power of the federal government, he is assuring that these resilient comedians will pop up somewhere else where he has no control (like Substack and YouTube) and where the audience is likely larger.
Rendering broadcast TV free from political discourse removes one of the few remaining reasons to view this dying medium. I can imagine the number of cords being cut and subsequent media business layoffs.
Is the FCC chairman’s mission to steward the broadcast industry for the American people or to kill it? Kimmel will come back strengthened, so he is accomplishing nothing.
