To the editor: Donald Trump is literally tearing down the White House as he simultaneously tears the federal government apart and makes a mockery of truth, justice and the American way. In a total perversion of what it means to be an American, a White House spokesperson, when asked about “No Kings” rallies, responded, “Who cares?” It is time we show the administration that as Americans we care about education, climate change, science, and health care here and abroad. We care about affordable housing, due process, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but not at the expense of others. We care about the great disparity in wealth that leaves families unable to afford basic necessities. We care about freedom of speech and speaking the truth. We care that the president is not setting an example for civil discourse and that he mocks and berates others and does not care that his voice, influence and actions are not moving this country forward but bringing down a dark curtain on the light that should be our democracy.
