Letter: Ohtani brings spirit of sumo to the diamond

Shohei Ohtani is not a saint, but he has the welfare and well-being of baseball in his heart and soul. From what I know, I believe that Shohei views baseball through sumo lenses. There is something special and sacred about sumo, as seen in the traditional sumo rituals. For example, in sumo, both the victor and loser bow to each other after each bout. That is something Shohei would like to see in baseball, or so I believe. After all, baseball has always honored both the victor and the defeated, such being the dignity that baseball espouses. In the World Series, I hope all who love baseball will maintain the dignity and, yes, even sacredness that baseball champions. Charity in victory, dignity in defeat.
