As proven by recent sweeping Democratic election victories, most Americans are fed up with Trump’s attempt to force authoritarian rule on the vast majority of us who cherish democracy. Moreover, these victories signal a rejection of Republican blind allegiance for Trump and his agenda of lawlessness, vitriol, fear, hate, division and lies. Recent polls show Trump and Republicans are unpopular by wide margins. 63% disapprove of Trump. Only 37% approve (CNN poll). 52% blame Republicans for the shutdown. 42% blame Democrats (NBC poll). Other polls show considerable lack of support for Trump’s policies on immigration, the economy, tariffs and more. The Trump/GOP “Big Beautiful Bill” is a disaster for America. Among many other harmful provisions, the BBB forces millions of Americans to lose health insurance and millions more to have their premiums double in the coming months. Apparently, the Trump/GOP penchant for inflicting harm is unbounded. Democrats are standing strong for the health and well being of all Americans and are willing to negotiate and end the shutdown but Republicans refuse to come to the table. Republican failure to govern responsibly is exemplified by Mike Johnson’s refusal to call the House back into session and his refusal to seat duly elected Rep. Adelita Grijalva (Arizona). In view of Republican irresponsibility and history of attempting to eliminate the ACA 70 times, Democrats refuse to support a continuing resolution which would lock in these harmful provisions and require Democrats to rely on Republican promises to address healthcare in future legislation. As demonstrated repeatedly, most Republicans are not trustworthy. Their promises are worthless. Fortunately, a few Republicans, such as Lisa Murkowski and Marjorie Taylor Green, are defying Trump to stand strong for the American people on these issues. They have the courage to do what’s right.
