Gov. Cox has joined the blame game of insisting that the Democratic Party is to blame for the shutdown of the government, a government of a Republican president, Republican Congress and Republican Supreme Court. Gov. Cox is participating in the Trump hunger games, pitting the people struggling to retain their health insurance against the people struggling to feed their family. The Republican Congress is withholding the emergency funding for SNAP benefits that is meant to fill in when the government is in shut down, so no one goes hungry. Trump has bragged that the tariffs he has collected, from us, amount to over $17 trillion. Surely that is enough to fund the government for a year. The latest figures I found say the U.S. debt has reached $38 trillion, there should be enough to lower the debt ceiling by almost half. So why hasn’t it? Did the money go toward the new ballroom? Did the money go toward the bonuses for ICE? Did the money go toward paying for Trump’s golf trips? Where has the money gone? Was the amount exaggerated? Could President Trump be making things up as he goes? You can be sure Gov. Cox, and the Utah Legislature, will not be questioning anything that Trump says or does. They are in on the game, waiting for their invite to the Golden Coronation Ballroom. In the meantime, I’m sure Gov. Cox wants us to send thoughts and prayers to our struggling neighbors.
