Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman set lesbian tongues wagging with flirty lesbian exchange at the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday (14 September).
The two stars of The Hunting Wives stars appeared to hand out the award for outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series or movie, which went to Adolescence‘s Stephen Graham.
“Wow, that took me a while to get here. Sorry, I was really slow to come out,” Snow said, referring to stepping on to the stage. Akerman cheekily replied: “Oh, I don’t mind waiting for you to come out.”
The two were giving a nod to their characters’ steamy scenes in the Netflix series about gun-toting, MAGA-coded lesbians.
One person on X/Twitter pointed out that they were “being gay as f*ck at every opportunity“, while someone else wrote: “I love life, I love lesbians.”
Snow plays Sophie O’Neil, who moves from Boston to a fictional Texas town after her husband gets a job there, in the mystery drama adapted from best-selling author May Cobb’s novel.
Once settled in, Sophie meets socialite Margo Banks (Akerman) and becomes “consumed by obsession, seduction and murder”.
Part of that obsession includes a lesbian affair, that resulted in Akerman being labelled a “lesbian icon”.
The series, currently only available on Netflix in the US, was recently renewed for a second season despite a right-wing backlash for being too “outrageous” and raunchy.
Other than that, the drama has attracted positive reviews and showrunner Rebecca Perry Cutter told the New York Post: “It’s so fun, juicy and sexy. I wanted to do an exploration of women behaving badly, unapologetic sexual conquest running rampant, and just something fun.”
Talking to Entertainment Tonight on the Emmys red carpet about season two, Akerman said it was “like going back to summer camp.” Snow said she’d like Sophie to make better choices in season two.
“I think we all like watching girls behaving badly,” Akerman added. “So, I’m not sure the morals will be coming back soon.
The first season of The Hunting Wives is streaming on Netflix in the US now.
